Comments:
A much better word than the more often heard “blah” wouldn’t you say?
this post was blasé.
@mat is freaking super duper awesome
That is hating. Besides, it’s a word of the week. How exciting can a word every single week be? So you might as well just admit that you learned something, and now you’re going to use this new word more often.
yes, that was hating. i’m sorry. i really am. i really dislike people that just put comments just to hate, and when i see those, i feel like blocking those readers. especially when you’ve put in hard work to make a post interesting or for others to enjoy. i guess people who comment and don’t post often don’t realize that it takes effort to post and try to make it interesting enough for you to comment.
the following might start out to look like hating, but it’s actually constructive criticism.
i’m not that big a fan of word of the week. i actually get sad when i visit and see that it’s ‘word of the week’ time. i am however a big fan of your blog and what it brings to my life. but i guess this week i especially don’t like this word because it’s a common word. i’ve been using blase for about 13/24th’s of my life. of course you’re not going to be able to always come up with a word that NOBODY in the world has ever heard of. my solution? scrap this segment of your blog and make it… funny photo of the week. or interesting video on daily motion of the week. or why matkishimoto is awesome fact of the week. or great video game of the week(not sure how many people would enjoy that besides me). or if you’re trying for the whole alliteration thang, then “wong wisdom of the week” and then you can store all the archives to this in the “learn something” section along the top bar.
cheers derk. i can’t believe you post almost twice as much as me now. you nerdo. hahaha
@mat is freaking super duper awesome
I appreciate the feedback a lot actually. I originally started the word of the week because I wanted to teach *ahem* some people some new vocabulary. However, interesting as I think that it is sometimes, it’s not always so. Also I originally had the Word of the Week as a static (non-changing) page under the “Learn Something” section. I recently changed it up because that was getting out of hand. Now I’m going to make them as regular blog posts, but I won’t necessarily have to stick by it. I will try to have more interesting words of the week when I do have them. I had no idea that people used blasé because I hardly ever hear it used!
I meant to delete the Learn Something page, but I forgot to. The only item currently there was back-posted at Up Or Down, Same Difference. I’m going to delete the Learn Something now.
I like your idea for “Wong Wisdom of the Week” and might very well incorporate it as a replacement for just having a Word of the Week. Perhaps I’ll use it to post whatever I want for that week: a photo, a word, or anything else.
Thanks again for the comment. Haha your comment had more words than your posts do.
Hmm. How about the opposite, doing things the WRONG way? That is, a play on your “Wong Way” and tell people what to do if they want things to go wrong.
So…
How NOT to get a date.
How NOT to pass airport security.
How NOT to do laundry (mix reds with whites!)
You get the idea…
Just a thought.
@Ms. Q
That’s a pretty good idea! I know that I would laugh if someone wrote about it. That might definitely be something that I could make some posts about.
Thanks for the idea!
Glad you like it! I think you could definitely make it funny, what with the humor shown in your recent pro-con summer post.
First off…. I learned something today with the word blase. I never really use that term much, and now… I think I will.
Second… the “how NOT to…” posts are kind of funny, if you pick good topics. Otherwise, it’s just as pointless as the “how to” posts.
