Keeping A Box

Tagged as: , May 21

Read through old notes from those that might or might not have been interested in you. Find out both how weak the writing skills of young people can be as well as how strange you must have been to have thought it personally normal to interact with people in this way.

Watch videos of yourself as a kid that show that you had the makings of who you are even back then. Even if that means that you were one who found humor in bullying others.

Flip through some pictures that will make you laugh and some that will make you grimace.

It’s amusing to look back, wouldn’t you say? Even though junk is not something that I’d prefer to keep around in general, you also have to know what to save. A box full of memories is something that everyone would do well to keep. Just think about how it can be used for instant fun when you can’t think of anything else. Or like when you can’t think of anything to blog about.

Excursions Into The Casgo

Tagged as: , , , , May 19

Enter the majestic gates.
Or rather, the opening beneath the rolling warehouse door.
Let them greet you as you flash your pass.
Could you want anything more?

Try out the little goodies all around.
Different tastes offer themselves to you.
The sweet and the salty, the bread and meat.
All mixed in your stomach like some strange stew.

What will you do when the crowd confronts you?
You seem overwhelmed and help from who?
Nobody cares about you and your posse.
Oh look the pirate child to the rescue!

He has a sword on his little belt.
And a fearsome glow within his eyes.
His hand is at the ready,
But possibly if his Popsicle is taken he cries.

The cheese! The cheese!
Oh so much cheese!
You want to eat more?
Well then just say please.

Bring your riches, then you may pass.
I see the light, oh yonder ho!
There is just one standing in our way.
She then says, “thank you for coming to Casgo.”

Sometimes Fight, Sometimes Flight

Tagged as: , , , , , May 08

Let us rewind back to the days of our youth. Let us go to health class. Ah the fight or flight response.

A novel stimulus (which could include a perception of danger or an environmental stresser signal such as elevated sound levels or over-illumination), once perceived, is relayed from the sensory cortex of the brain through the thalamus to the brain stem. That route of signaling increases the rate of noradrenergic activity in the locus ceruleus, and the person becomes alert and attentive to the environment.
-Wikipedia article

Does this happen in your life? Of course it does! Everyday it happens! When that person cuts you off and then stares you down because they think that you got too close to them, what happens? When a bully starts to belittle you, how do you react?

wasp
When you go to get the mail, open the door, and realize that there is a Dolichovespula arenaria right next to your hand, what happens? You flight!

Daddylonglegspider
When you wake up in the morning, realize that there was a spider in your dream, proceed to wake up and get ready for the day, calmly do your morning stretches as you read a magazine, and a Pholcus phalangioides walks right in front of you while you’re sitting on the ground, what happens? You fight!

Yes, I lived it. Yes, you might also. The lesson to be learned is that sometimes you fight and sometimes you flight. It’s not always good to have a headstrong attitude in whatever you do. And it definitely doesn’t pay off to always be a sissy. It depends on the situation.

Cheatin’ Chinese

Tagged as: , , , , , , , , May 04

Sometimes Chinese people do good things. Sometimes Chinese people do bad things. And sometimes Chinese people sure do some stupid things.

Get this: Chinese people copied Disneyland. As in, they made a Disneyland park. Are you kidding me?!

I read an Engadget article about the fake Disneyland that got me to searching for more information. Amusingly, they have characters that closely mimic the Disney ones as well as rides that indicate how much of a fake it is. Their slogan (according to this other article) is that “Disneyland is too far.” Wow, that is unbelievable. I think that actually the most amusing thing about Beijing’s Shijingshan Amusement Park is that its website is http://www.bs-amusement-park.com. Haha you read that right, it’s the BS amusement park.

Although pretty humorous, this actually touches on a more serious issue (which was touched on at Even Worse Than At First Glance). And that issue is copyright infringement (or in this case complete disregard for copyrights whatsoever).

Too Much Of A Good Thing

Tagged as: , , May 03

I got a piece of junk mail the other day. I looked at it for a bit. Then I said, “Eh junk mail, I’m going to delete this.”

The thing is, it was a piece of paper mail.

Bah, too much computers.
